As further proof that wearable technology is gaining momentum, Amazon recently launched a new storefront dedicated to it. Unveiled on April 29, the Wearable Technology store is stocked with smart watches, fitness bands, cameras, and healthcare devices from brands such as Samsung, Jawbone, Fitbit, and GoPro. The store also features a “Learning Centre” with product videos and detailed buying guides, as well as an “Editor’s Corner” that offers industry news and device reviews.
“Wearable technology is an exciting category with rapid innovation and our customers are increasingly coming to Amazon to shop and learn about these devices,” said John Nemeth, Director of Wireless and Mobile Electronics at Amazon. “We’re thrilled to bring our customers a store with the largest selection and great prices that helps eliminate the guesswork when deciding which wearable devices best fit their needs—whether that is tracking activity, staying connected through smart watches or capturing their next adventure with wearable cameras.”
Although Amazon has no plans to go beyond their new store, opting out of the development of wearable technology, a number of tech giants are increasing production. Samsung’s new smart watches, Google’s Android Wear, and Apple’s rumored iWatch are sure to spike the industry. Wearable technology may be on its way to becoming the next big thing.
