There’s nothing better than having a slice of cake and a cup of tea or coffee, especially in the eyes of StoneShot’s London office. What makes it even better is the thought of helping others whilst doing so. The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event for people facing cancer. On Friday 29 September the London office rolled up their sleeves and baked up a treat to help raise money.

With cake contributions from five members of staff, a game of cake bingo and a competition to guess the height of a rather large cake tower, a total of £111 was made!

Early bird gets the cake

Kicking off the day with a healthy breakfast, the London office munched their way through croissants, fairy cakes, a Victoria sponge, a chocolate cake, mini Oreo cheesecakes, and a jelly bean filled piñata cake, making donations with every slice.

Eating cake wasn’t the only activity on the cards for the fundraising effort. Throughout the morning donations were made and everyone had a guess as to how tall the Macmillan cake tower was. The winning guess was 90cm made by Alan Watkins, Operations Director – only 4cm off the actual answer of 94cm! The afternoon was then rounded up by further donations and a game of cake bingo, which was won by one of our newest recruits, Jessica Kenyon, Graphic Designer.

In true bake-off style, the day couldn’t end without voting and naming a star baker. With a landslide victory, and the evidence of an empty cake stand, Bronwen Mahardy took the crown with her vegan chocolate cake!

Cake for everyone

Despite best efforts not every slice was finished. However, the leftovers didn’t go to waste as the local Salvation Army homeless shelter in Whitechapel benefitted from the baker’s handy work.

We would like to thank all members of staff for their fundraising effort and look forward to similar events in the future!
